⚖ PSYCHIATRIST JAILED – SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGE

A Twin Falls psychiatrist is jailed after being charged with sexually assaulting a patient. Boise Police say 45-year-old Alexander Wills faces felony forcible penetration. He practiced in Twin Falls and Sun Valley and is being held without bail.

🧒 CHILD UNINSURED RATE – IDAHO RISES SHARPLY

A new report finds Idaho had the second-fastest rise in uninsured children nationwide. From 2022 to 2024, the rate jumped from 5.7% to 8.1% — leaving about 40,000 kids without coverage.

🚌 SCHOOL BUS CRASH – JEROME

The Jerome School District says Bus #9 was involved in a minor traffic accident yesterday when its mirror struck a parked RV at Lincoln and Main. No injuries were reported. Bus #11 will cover the route.

🌊 MUDSLIDE – PAYETTE COUNTY

A mudslide shut down Highway 52 between Killebrew Drive and Little Willow Road in Payette County Tuesday night. Before crews arrived, a pickup struck two motorcyclists at the site. The road remains closed as cleanup continues.

🚧 HIGHWAY 21 CLOSED – LANDSLIDE RISK

The ITD has closed Highway 21 north of Grandjean due to rain and landslide risks. Emergency repairs are underway, and the road is expected to reopen October 8.

🏛 FEDERAL SHUTDOWN – IMPACT IN IDAHO

The federal government is now in partial shutdown. About 14,000 federal workers in Idaho are impacted, with many furloughed or working without pay. Food benefits like SNAP and WIC will continue for now, and Idaho’s national parks and forests remain open, though services could be limited if the shutdown drags on.

💰 TAX DEADLINE – OCTOBER 15

Idaho’s tax filing deadline is October 15 for those with extensions. The Tax Commission reminds residents taxes can be filed and paid online, with interest charged on unpaid balances.

👮 WALLET THEFT – BOISE STATE

Boise Police arrested 19-year-old Joshua Cantrell of California after he allegedly stole a wallet at Boise State and racked up more than $1,300 in purchases. Cantrell faces felony charges including grand theft, fraudulent card possession, and burglary.

🔪 BLACKFOOT MAN CHARGED – IDAHO FALLS INCIDENT

A Blackfoot man is facing multiple felonies after police say he slashed tires and violated a protection order in Idaho Falls. 34-year-old Ruben Hernandez is charged with stalking, malicious injury to property, and witness intimidation. The charges follow a prior attack involving an air compressor.

⚽🏐 HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS – MAGIC VALLEY

In boys’ soccer, Burley rolled past Minico 8–1, and the Bobcats visit Jerome on Saturday. On the girls’ side, Burley edged Minico 1–0 and will also host Jerome Saturday. In volleyball, Jerome swept Burley in three tight sets—25-23, 25-22, and 26-24. Next up, Burley heads to Minico Monday.

Plenty of Magic Valley high school soccer action today. On the boys’ side, all games start at 4 o’clock. Sun Valley Community School heads to Buhl. Bliss, visits Declo, still looking for its first win. Wendell, an impressive 11-1-1, travels to Filer. And Kimberly faces Gooding, strong at 8-4.

Girls’ soccer takes the field at 5:45. Sun Valley is at Buhl. Bliss plays Declo. Wendell is at Filer and powerhouse Kimberly, 12-1, goes up against Gooding, 1-11.

🏈 COLLEGE FOOTBALL – IDAHO STATE

Idaho State gears up for a big one this Saturday as the Bengals host the Montana Grizzlies at 6 p.m. in Pocatello. Head Coach Cody Hawkins says Montana brings the league’s best offense and defense, led by star running back Gilman and a fast, physical D. He calls it a “big-time football game” and urges Bengal fans to pack the stands in orange. Quarterback JC will get the start, but Hawkins says they’ll make adjustments if needed.

🤠 BACKYARD BRONC BASH – OCTOBER 11

The Backyard Bronc Bash returns Saturday, October 11, founded by NFR saddle bronc rider Mitch Pollock and his family. What started as a backyard ride in 2020 has grown into a full rodeo event, now drawing hundreds of fans. This year, Idaho’s Kade Bruno looks to claim his third title, and scholarships will be awarded to a CSI rodeo athlete and a local FFA senior.
