A Hagerman firefighter is being held in the Ada County Jail on $500,000 bond, accused in a violent kidnapping. Prosecutors say 22-year-old Steen Lamb and an accomplice lured a man to the Eagle foothills, where they tased, tied up, and beat him. Lamb faces multiple charges and is due back in court September 22nd.

πŸ”« Deputy-Involved Shooting

Idaho State Police report that a man was killed Friday south of Bliss. Gooding County deputies responded to a vehicle stuck along U.S. 30 when the driver, 35-year-old Blake Curtis Saffran of Indiana, pulled a gun. Deputies fired in response, killing Saffran.

πŸ—³ Illegal Voting Probe

Seven people have been arrested in Fremont County, accused of illegal voting tied to a May 2023 election on a proposed Island Park auditorium taxing district. The measure was narrowly defeated, and prosecutors say non-residents may have cast ballots illegally. Each faces felony charges of perjury and illegal voting.

🏠 Housing Market

Idaho homebuyers are seeing relief as mortgage rates hit their lowest in more than a year. The average 30-year fixed dropped to 6.29%, down from just over 7% in May. Realtors say the dip boosts buying power and could save about $200 a month on a median home.

πŸš” Police Shooting Ruling

Boise Police officers will not face charges in the September 2024 shooting of robbery suspect Adam Lee Cook. Blaine County Prosecutor Matthew Fredback ruled the use of deadly force was lawful after Cook pointed a stick like a gun. Cook later pled guilty to robbery and is serving a life sentence.

πŸ”₯ Rupert Fire Station

Rupert will cut the ribbon on its first-ever purpose-built fire station today. An open house runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at 318 Scott Avenue, giving residents a chance to tour the new facility.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ 9/11 Memorial

Preparations are complete for the Magic Valley 9/11 Memorial. The nation’s largest flying flag will hang from the Perrine Bridge starting Thursday, with a ceremony at 5:30 p.m. including a new bell toll tribute.

πŸ… Boys Soccer

It was an All-Tigers matchup as Jerome hosted Mountain Home. Jerome lit up the scoreboard early β€” goals from Edgar Andrade, Quintin Avila, and Ezekiel β€œCheke” Ortiz fueled a 6-1 win. Elsewhere, Twin Falls shut out Burley 4-0 for their first win of the season, and Wood River rolled past Minico 12-0.

⚽ Girls Soccer

Twin Falls blanked Burley 9-0, Wood River took down Minico 5-0, and Jerome defeated Mountain Home 5-1. Plenty of league action continues Wednesday: Twin Falls meets Wood River, while Burley faces Mountain Home.

🏐 Volleyball

Wood River swept Burley in three straight sets β€” 25-20, 25-23, and 25-15. The Bobcats return home to host Minico tomorrow.

🀠 College Rodeo

The College of Southern Idaho rodeo teams opened their season at Southern Utah. The Golden Eagle women took first behind Celie Davis (All-Around, 350 points). The men placed third with 370 points, led by Christian Bolli in Saddle Bronc and Dahl Winters in Bareback. Next up: ISU Rodeo in Pocatello Sept. 12-13.

🏈 Boise State Football

Boise State unveiled a new specialty helmet called the β€œFront Porch of Idaho.” The hand-painted design features the State Capitol, the 208 area code, Boise’s iconic blue turf, and a galloping Bronco. The Broncos debut the new look September 27th against Appalachian State.

πŸ€ CSI Basketball

College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball is bringing back a familiar face. Dawson Henshaw has been hired as assistant coach for 2025-26, returning after two years at Montana Western. He helped guide CSI’s undefeated 2023-24 run.

πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ Transgender Sports Ban

A Boise State student, Lindsay Hecox, has dropped her lawsuit challenging Idaho’s transgender sports ban. She cited safety and education as her priorities. The ACLU says they will continue fighting similar laws nationwide, including one now before the U.S. Supreme Court.
