Shooters fined after wildfires
Two recreational shooters will pay over $24,000 in restitution after illegal exploding ammunition sparked the 2024 Leeds and Chalky Butte fires in southwest Idaho, burning more than 700 acres. The Bureau of Land Management says target shooting remains a leading cause of wildfires and urges safe, responsible recreation on Idaho’s public lands.
$13M secured for Idaho water projects
Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has secured $13 million for water projects across the state. American Falls, Bellevue, Fort Hall, and Rigby will all benefit from Community Project Funding to replace aging lines, build storage tanks, and bring drinking water systems into compliance—strengthening infrastructure in small Idaho communities.
Gooding Fire Chief pleads guilty
Gooding Fire Chief Brandon Dale Covey has pleaded guilty to misuse of public funds after spending thousands on alcohol, storage containers, and firearm parts with district money. Prosecutors recommend probation, a $500 fine, and more than $2,300 in restitution. Sentencing is set for November 18.
Spirit Airlines leaves Boise
Spirit Airlines will end Boise service October 4, dropping its Las Vegas route. The carrier is also leaving Salt Lake City and other markets amid bankruptcy restructuring. Boise Airport says passenger growth remains strong and new service opportunities are being pursued.
Jerome County ribbon-cutting
The Jerome County Commissioners and Chamber of Commerce invite you to a ribbon-cutting Monday at noon at the courthouse on North Lincoln. The newly remodeled former jail now houses the DMV, treasurer’s office, and county IT, while preserving Jerome’s historic heritage.
Valley Music Festival in Sun Valley
The Valley Music Festival is rocking Sun Valley this weekend with 50 bands on two stages over three days. Festival owner Levi Donahue says they’ve been planning for more than a year, and artists have come from across the country and even Australia. Tickets are still available through tomorrow.
Boise Pride Festival this weekend
The Boise Pride Festival kicks off this weekend at Ann Morrison Park instead of downtown. Despite fewer sponsors and scaled-back fireworks, organizers say the theme “Our Pride, Our Power” will shine through two days of performances, a parade, and community events.

Boise State football sold out
Boise State’s home opener tonight against Eastern Washington is officially sold out, extending the Broncos’ streak to nine straight games on The Blue. More than 21,000 season tickets have already been sold, surpassing last year’s total. Capacity is limited to just under 33,000 due to construction, but ticket demand remains strong.
Boise State women’s soccer rally
Boise State women’s soccer is back at .500 after a 2-2-2 record, following a strong second half against Weber State. The Broncos outshot the Wildcats 12 to 2 after halftime, and 16 to 6 overall. Kenzie MacMillan led with seven shots, while Cindy Conner added four.
Idaho State tough loss
In Pocatello, Idaho State women’s soccer fell 3-2 to Utah Tech Thursday night at Davis Field. Senior captain Mary Za scored twice—including a 71st-minute penalty to tie it—but Utah Tech’s Michelle Rodriguez delivered the game-winner with just two and a half minutes left.
High school soccer highlights
Filer boys soccer rolled past Buhl 7–1. Ruben Navarette and M’munga Elengwa each scored twice, Aydyn Burns and Josiah Ortiz added goals, and Quentin Skinner netted his first varsity score. Elsewhere: Wendell crushed Declo 15–0, Gooding blanked Bliss 4–0.
On the girls’ side: Canyon Ridge shut out Mountain Home 6–0, Sun Valley edged Kimberly 2–1, Bliss downed Gooding 5–0.
Boise State volleyball perfect
Boise State volleyball stayed undefeated at 4-0, sweeping UC San Diego in the Boise State Classic—25-18, a marathon 36-34, and 25-14. The Broncos face Arizona today at 3:30 in Bronco Gym.
