Nearly 1,000 people rallied at the Idaho State Capitol on Labor Day under the banner “Workers over Billionaires.” They demanded higher wages, paid leave, and affordable housing.
Idaho schools face a special education funding gap of more than $100 million. State superintendent Debbie Critchfield is seeking $50 million in block grants to close the shortfall — her only new line-item request in next year’s K-12 budget. The proposal comes as state spending tops $3 billion for the first time, amid the toughest budget crunch in five years.
A head-on crash on Highway 93 near Hollister last night left one driver trapped and airlifted to Idaho Falls. The highway was closed for four hours.
Jerome School Superintendent Brent Johnson says the district will amend its policy that prohibited recording at public school board meetings. Reporters had been told not to film, but Johnson now says the district wants transparency.
Firefighters contained the Centennial Fire near Exit 173 on I-84 after it burned 26 acres. At the IFARM museum, the blaze destroyed the blacksmith shop, though no other buildings were lost.
Three people were hurt Sunday evening when a small bridge shifted at the Shoshone Ice Caves, causing them to fall onto the ice. One person may have broken ribs; two others suffered minor injuries. The caves are closed indefinitely.
The Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office says a 19-year-old boater drowned Sunday evening at Twin Falls Park after falling into the water behind the dam.
Fire crews battled a house fire on Meadowview Lane in Twin Falls. Flames destroyed the garage and a car, but the homeowner escaped safely.
A Kimberly couple is suing the city and school district after a failed irrigation box flooded their home, causing $80,000 in damage. They’ve filed a tort claim and launched a GoFundMe.
Kuna Police say a woman drowned in Indian Creek yesterday afternoon. No foul play is suspected.
