💰 Budget & Economy

• Twin Falls City Manager Travis Rothweiler unveiled a $101 million budget proposal for 2026, aimed at supporting the city’s rapid growth. The plan includes funding for public safety, parks, roads, and infrastructure. The city council will review focus areas in upcoming meetings, with a final vote set for August 25.

• The Twin Falls School District is scrambling after a sudden $1.5 million budget gap, caused by a federal funding freeze just days before July 1. Superintendent Brady Dickinson says the last-minute cut is impacting staffing and critical programs for migrant and multilingual students.

Idaho gas prices held steady at $3.42 per gallon over the holiday weekend, despite record travel numbers. That’s 17 cents less than a year ago. The national average is $3.14, also down.


🚨 Public Safety & Infrastructure

Twin Falls Water crews worked through the holiday weekend to repair a waterline break at Third Avenue East and Jerome Street. The road remains closed between Jerome and Hansen Streets until it’s repaved.

• A small plane made a gear-up landing at Joslin Field, Magic Valley Airport. The Piper single-engine aircraft hit the runway without its landing gear deployed. No injuries were reported, but the plane was damaged. The runway reopened by 3:50 p.m., causing a short delay for a Salt Lake City flight.

Crime dropped 9.5% in Twin Falls last year, according to Idaho State Police data. Twin Falls Police credit strong community awareness and high officer presence. While simple assaults, thefts, and drug offenses remain common, arrests rose 2.5%, showing progress in clearing cases.


🔥 Weather & Fire Danger

Scorching temps and gusty winds are raising heat and wildfire concerns across southern Idaho. A Heat Advisory is in effect today for the Treasure Valley, with highs up to 106°F. A Fire Weather Watch follows tomorrow, including the Twin Falls area, with gusts near 30 mph and humidity as low as 13%.

Today: Sunny and hot, high near 100°F. Winds 5–10 mph, gusts up to 20 mph.
Tonight: Mostly clear, low around 63°F. Winds up to 20 mph.
Wednesday: Slight storm chance (20%) after noon, high near 94°F. Gusts up to 24 mph.
Wednesday Night: Clear, low near 62°F. Gusts up to 28 mph.
Thursday–Friday: Cooler with highs in the mid-80s, clear skies at night.
Weekend: Heating up again—highs near 90°F Saturday, mid-90s by Sunday.
