A drug raid took place around 10 a.m. yesterday at Monroe Street and Heyburn Avenue. Twin Falls County deputies served a search warrant, taking one woman into custody. Arraignment is set for this morning.
Robert Lange’s Idaho Falls murder trial is delayed after he waived his right to a speedy trial. He’s accused of fatally beating Alejandro Paredes-Hurtado near Northgate Mile in Idaho Falls last October. A jury trial is now set for July 21.
The family of Kali Best and her infant son Zeke, killed by husband Jeremy Best, is suing for wrongful death. Best pleaded guilty in February and will be sentenced July 23.
IMMIGRATION & CONSUMER PROTECTION
A federal judge has extended a freeze on part of Idaho’s new immigration law, halting state-level enforcement. The judge ruled the law likely conflicts with federal immigration authority and could violate due process protections. Other parts of the law remain active.
Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador issued a consumer alert after reports of fake door-to-door audits for energy efficiency. He warns no such state program exists and urges residents to verify credentials and report suspicious activity.

Avian flu has been confirmed in 86 Idaho dairy herds, with 59 now under quarantine across Gooding, Jerome, Twin Falls, and Cassia counties. The USDA says Idaho has the second-highest total in the nation.

Northwest electricity demand could double by 2046, driven by data centers, electric vehicles, and green hydrogen. A new 20-year forecast from regional experts shows Idaho and neighboring states could see annual demand grow up to 3.1%.

A portion of Canyon Springs Grade near the golf course will close overnight starting 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, for irrigation repairs. It’s set to reopen by 10 a.m. Thursday. Only local or emergency traffic will be allowed.

A town hall is set for May 7 in Burley to discuss the May 20 elections. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at Morey’s Steakhouse, featuring highway district candidates and a talk on the library levy.

Ada and Canyon Counties keep growing! New COMPASS estimates show 847,840 residents—a 3% jump from last year. Boise tops the list at over 253,000, and Star saw the fastest growth at nearly 10%. That’s 120,000 new people since 2020.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Buhl baseball is celebrating its first 4A Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference title since 2010 after a 9-5 win over Kimberly. The Indians scored four runs in the seventh to secure the victory and move on to the 4A state play-in round. Kimberly, now 16-7, will host Filer in a true second place game tomorrow at 5 p.m.
Filer advanced by eliminating Gooding 13-3 in five innings. Bridger Phillips and Carsten Eskelsen combined for eight strikeouts and held Gooding to just one hit. Filer racked up 13 hits and led 11-0 after three innings.
In the 3A South East Idaho Conference tournament, No. 5 Declo edged No. 4 Lighthouse Christian 8-7 at the College of Southern Idaho. Zane Snedaker led with a three-run homer for the Hornets, who advance to face No. 1 Malad today. The Lions’ season ends at 7-7.
In the 2A Western Idaho Conference, No. 2 Glenns Ferry walked off Idaho City 6-5. Bryce Sterling delivered the game-winning RBI double and also struck out eight over 5 ⅓ innings. The Pilots face No. 1 North Star Charter in tomorrow’s championship.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
In 4A Sawtooth softball, top-seeded Kimberly defeated Buhl 8-4 behind a complete game from Mallory Kelsey, who struck out eight. Kimberly’s offense was led by five players with two hits each, while Buhl’s Addyson Ridley had three. Kimberly (22-2) hosts No. 2 Gooding tomorrow at 5 p.m.
Gooding advanced with a 3-2 win over Filer, thanks to a two-run fifth inning. Kodi Garza tripled to tie it, then Olivia Rogers drove in the winning run. Kaylee Silver pitched a complete game for Gooding, allowing just four hits. Gooding (14-7) visits Kimberly tomorrow, while Filer (6-15) hosts Buhl in an elimination game.
In 2A play, Glenns Ferry rolled over Rimrock 18-1 in four innings. Taylor Martinez struck out seven and allowed just one hit. Peyton Stewart and Marlee Mason each had two hits for the Pilots, who led 6-0 after one. Glenns Ferry (19-4) travels to Wilder on Monday.
