Crime & Courts
- Lori Vallow Daybell faces a second murder conspiracy trial in Arizona, accused of plotting to kill Brandon Boudreaux. She was just convicted for conspiring to murder her ex-husband Charles Vallow, and once again, she’s representing herself. Jury selection begins late May.
- A judge has ruled that prosecutors can seek the death penalty against Bryan Kohberger, despite his autism diagnosis. Kohberger is charged with murdering four University of Idaho students in 2022. His trial is scheduled for August.
Travel & ID Updates
- Starting May 7, the TSA will no longer accept non-REAL ID licenses at airport checkpoints. Idahoans are urged to obtain the REAL ID-compliant Idaho Star Card now. Without it, travelers will need a passport or other federally approved ID—or risk missing their flight.

Traffic & Accidents
- The Idaho State Police are investigating a deadly two-vehicle crash that occurred yesterday afternoon on I-15 near Pocatello. A Subaru rear-ended an Audi when traffic slowed. The 48-year-old Inkom man driving the Subaru died at the scene. Two people in the Audi were hospitalized.
Infrastructure & Roads
- Highway 95 between New Meadows and Council will reopen Monday after emergency repairs. According to the Idaho Transportation Department, the road was damaged by a landslide last month. Crews worked double shifts to restore the vital north–south route.
State Politics & Pride
- Boise Mayor Lauren McLean says the Pride flag will stay up at City Hall, defying a new Idaho law banning unauthorized flags. She challenged Attorney General Raúl Labrador’s request to remove the flag, calling the law unenforceable and politically motivated.
The Idaho AG responded:
“It appears the mayor and her legal team do not understand the requirements of state law.”
Education Leadership
- The Idaho State Board of Education has named Jeremiah Shinn as interim president of Boise State University. He steps in as Dr. Marlene Tromp departs for the University of Vermont. A national search for a new president is now underway.
NFL Draft – Idaho Stars Shine
- Colston Loveland, from Gooding, is officially NFL-bound. The Chicago Bears selected the Michigan tight end with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft last night. Loveland becomes Gooding’s first NFL player since 1939 and the first District IV draftee since 2007. A former top Idaho recruit, Loveland starred at Michigan and helped the Wolverines win a national title. His hometown fans—and likely every Gooding High student—are already eyeing that Bears jersey for Christmas.
- Ashton Jeanty made Boise State history last night when he was drafted sixth overall by the Las Vegas Raiders—the highest pick in school history. Jeanty, a unanimous All-American and Heisman runner-up, rushed for over 2,600 yards and 29 touchdowns last season. He led the Broncos to a Mountain West title and their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance. Jeanty also won the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards, cementing his place as one of college football’s elite.
High School Baseball
- In the 5A Great Basin tournament, No. 4 Minico rolled past No. 5 Wood River 11–1 in six innings, powered by Carlos Dominguez’s five RBIs. Jase Murphy got the win. Minico now faces No. 1 Twin Falls today at 2:30.
- Twin Falls eliminated Wood River 11–2 with a complete game from Jordan Bingham, who struck out eight. Dalton Carter led with three hits, and Maddox Stadelmeir added a two-run homer.
- No. 6 Jerome upset No. 3 Burley 7–4 with a big sixth inning. Sawyer Tilley had three hits and Andrew Wilson pitched six strong innings. Jerome faces No. 2 Mountain Home at 3 p.m. today.
- Burley bounced back, beating Mountain Home 9–4 thanks to Jacoby Roe and Jake Redder, who each had four hits. Ike Redder pitched a complete game.
- In 6A action, Madison edged Canyon Ridge 3–1 in Game 1. Canyon Ridge came back for a 5–4 walk-off win in Game 2, with Dre Mora’s clutch single sealing the deal.
High School Softball
- Minico swept Canyon Ridge in a doubleheader:
- Game 1: Minico won 10–9, led by Madi Fowler’s four hits. Sammy Jasso got the win. Dani Toolson had three hits for Canyon Ridge.
- Game 2: Minico won 15–3 in five innings. Nye Salinas had three hits and Jasso struck out five. Minico hosts Mountain Home tomorrow.
- Wood River edged Jerome in both games:
- Game 1: Wood River won 17–14 behind Makinzie Nelson’s five RBIs.
- Game 2: Nelson went 5-for-5 and hit the walk-off. Sawyer Garrard had five hits for Jerome.
- Wood River hosts Twin Falls tomorrow; Jerome visits Burley.
- Burley crushed Mountain Home in both games:
- Game 1: 14–0 with Ady Olmos striking out 10.
- Game 2: 18–8, with Olmos, Kate Hege, and Bella Messina collecting multiple hits.
- Burley will host Jerome tomorrow.
