MOTORCYCLE CRASH — INTERSTATE 84 NEAR JEROME

Idaho State Police say a 49-year-old Oregon motorcyclist was airlifted to the hospital after crashing Saturday evening on Interstate 84 southeast of Jerome. The crash shut down the freeway for about an hour and a half.

DRIVE-BY SHOOTING — TWIN FALLS

Twin Falls Police have arrested a 31-year-old man after a drive-by shooting Thursday night on Highland Avenue. Investigators say three shots were fired at a home, hitting a parked vehicle and the residence. No one was hurt.

CHASE ENDS AT BOISE HOME

43-year-old Robert Torres Limon is in custody after deputies say he led them on a short chase Sunday morning before crashing into a Boise home. No one inside the home was hurt, and the driver now faces DUI, fleeing, and resisting charges.

CENTENNIAL PARK BOAT RAMP REOPENS

The boat ramp at Centennial Park has reopened after a truck, trailer, and boat rolled into the water when the truck’s brakes failed. Authorities say no one was hurt, and the vehicle has been removed.

BLACK RIDGE 2 FIRE — SHOSHONE

The Black Ridge 2 Fire east of Shoshone is now contained after burning more than 13,000 acres. Fire officials expect full control by 6 p.m. today. No homes were threatened, but the fire caused significant damage to Rangeland.

CLAREMONT FIRE — BOISE FOOTHILLS

The Claremont Fire in the Boise Foothills has grown to nearly 6,820 acres and is now 84% contained. Fire crews remain on the scene as hot, dry weather continues, with full containment expected by August 1.

OHIO FIRE — BLAINE COUNTY

The Ohio Fire northeast of Hailey has grown to about 2,000 acres. Evacuation orders remain in place, with “Go Now” alerts for Ohio Gulch and nearby areas.

IDAHO FINANCES EXCEED PROJECTIONS

Idaho wrapped up the fiscal year with stronger-than-expected finances. State revenues came in nearly $172 million above projections, about $250 million will carry over into the new budget, and Moody’s reaffirmed Idaho’s AAA credit rating. The state also returned a record $910 million in income tax refunds to Idahoans.

PRIVATE EDUCATION TAX CREDIT CAP REACHED

Idaho’s new private education tax credit program has reached its $50 million spending cap, and applications are now closed. More than 7,000 families applied for credits to help cover private school expenses.

ABORTION BALLOT INITIATIVE

Democrat Terri Pickens and independent John Stegner say they’ll support Idaho’s abortion ballot initiative if voters approve it in November. Constitution Party candidate Pro-Life says he’d work to overturn it.

CSI SOFTBALL ADDS TWO PLAYMAKERS

The College of Southern Idaho softball team has added two big-time playmakers for next season. Catcher Scotti Powell joins the Golden Eagles after winning four state championships in Nevada and earning 2026 All-State Player of the Year honors. CSI also welcomes transfer Brooklyn Van Renselaar, a First Team NWAC All-American from Clackamas Community College. She hit an impressive .505 last season with 95 hits and 47 stolen bases, giving the Golden Eagles even more speed and offense.

WOOD RIVER VALLEY HONORS OLYMPIANS

The Wood River Valley celebrated its hometown Olympians and Paralympians Friday with a community parade and ceremony in Ketchum. Hundreds turned out to honor Team USA athletes who competed at the 2026 Winter Games in Milano Cortina. Snowboarder Chase Josey thanked the community for its support, while four-time Paralympic gold medalist Jake Adicoff said representing the valley on the world stage made the homecoming even more meaningful.

IDAHO DRESSAGE ATHLETE EYES OLYMPICS

Dressage may not be the biggest Olympic sport, but it’s gaining attention in Idaho. Eagle native Hannah Muckler has already qualified for the U.S. Junior National Championships and hopes to one day compete at the Olympics with her horse, Bugatti. Officials with the U.S. Equestrian Federation say interest in the sport is growing as athletes look ahead to the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

SOCCER FRIENDSHIP SPANS CONTINENTS

A Boise family’s time living in Spain turned into a friendship built around soccer that’s now spanning continents. After spending 15 months abroad, the Niebergall family recently hosted their Spanish host family in Boise for six weeks, taking in the FIFA World Cup and an Athletic Club Boise match. The visitors called the last-second win over Portland one of their favorite memories from their trip to Idaho.
