💡 UTILITIES & CONSUMER COSTS

  • Idaho Power customers could see monthly bills jump over $21 if a proposed $199 million rate hike is approved. The increase includes a $10 hike to the base service charge. If approved, it takes effect January 2026.
  • Gas prices are creeping up. Idaho’s average rose just a penny, but Treasure Valley, Magic Valley, and Idaho Falls saw increases of 2 to 6 cents. AAA warns that more hikes could follow.

🍽 FOOD INSECURITY

  • Food insecurity is rising in Idaho, now impacting 12.7% of residents and over 16% of children, according to the Map the Meal Gap report.
  • The Idaho Foodbank says more families are seeking help and is urging community support to fight hunger.

🦗 BUG PROBLEMS ON THE ROAD

  • Swarming crickets are making Idaho roads slippery. AAA suggests:
    • Top off washer fluid
    • Check air filters
    • Drive slower
    • Wash and wax your car to protect the paint

  • Lori Vallow Daybell’s Arizona jury selection was delayed again after she claimed severe illness. She faces conspiracy charges related to a 2019 shooting, and is already convicted for the deaths of her children.
  • Tyrell Howell, 28, of Burley, was sentenced to 25 years for distributing child pornography. Eligible for parole in 5. Investigation led by Idaho’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.

🏥 HEALTH & POLICY

  • Idaho’s Medicaid overhaul is underway. Full switch to managed care is expected by 2029. Officials stress that rushing could hurt providers.
  • Work requirements are being planned for 2026.

⛏ MINERAL EXPANSIONS

  • The Bureau of Land Management approved 6-acre expansions for the PDZ and Teague zeolite mines in Owyhee County.
  • This supports a federal mandate to boost U.S. mineral production and allows for more extraction and infrastructure upgrades.
