Suspicious Device Found in Twin Falls Traffic Stop

Details are emerging about an early Sunday morning incident where Twin Falls police discovered a suspicious device in a car. Just before 2 a.m., a state trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding near Heyburn and Blue Lakes. Court documents report that the driver, 23-year-old Nicholas Honhorst, displayed bloodshot and glassy eyes. The officer observed a pistol inside the car, driven by Honhorst, who is currently on probation. A suspicious black tube containing buckshot and explosive powder was found, prompting the Twin Falls bomb squad to respond.

Idaho Ranks First in Median Household Income Growth

Governor Brad Little commented on Idaho’s ranking as first in the nation for median household income growth, with an increase of 15.5%. Idaho’s income growth more than doubled the national average uptick of $5,144 and exceeded all other 49 states and the District of Columbia.

Gas Prices Drop in Idaho

According to AAA, Idaho’s average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.98. This marks a drop of 4 cents from last week, 20 cents from last month, and 38 cents compared to this time last year. Idaho now ranks 20th in the nation for the most expensive fuel, with 31 states reporting prices below the $3 mark.

Vehicle Crash and Fire in Carey

On Sunday afternoon, Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash and fire on Main Street in Carey. A 21-year-old male from Salmon, accompanied by a 26-year-old male passenger, crashed into a tree at high speed, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Both individuals were transported via air ambulance.

Avalanche Fatality Near Lookout Peak

A motorized snow biker died after being fully buried in an avalanche near Lookout Peak, northwest of Cascade, on Sunday. Two bikers triggered a small slide around noon. 41-year-old Jason Haines of Kuna was pushed into a terrain trap and buried under snow and debris. Other snowmobilers located Haines using an avalanche beacon, but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

The 15th-ranked CSI Men’s Basketball Team overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Cochise College 83-79 in their first road game of the season. CSI trailed 40-32 at halftime but surged in the second half, improving their record to 10-2. They now face Arizona Western tonight.

Idaho State Hosts Utah Valley

The Idaho State men’s basketball team hosts the Utah Valley Wolverines tonight at 7 P.M. in Reed Gym for their final non-conference game of the season. Idaho State is 0-6 all-time against UVU, with their last meeting in 2018, ending in an 88-77 loss.
