The Twin Falls city council has reversed a decision of the city’s planning and Zoning commission giving the green light to the In-n-Out burger to locate near the Perrine Bridge.  In June the request was denied because of public concern over traffic congestion that the restaurant is expected to create.  The plan now calls for major reconstruction of the existing parking lot.  The Outback Steakhouse will be torn down to accommodate the plan.

One person died in a fire that destroyed a RV mobile home near Buhl yesterday morning.  Fire department officials in Buhl say investigators are on the scene and further information will be released pending notification to the family by the Twin Falls County Coroner.

State education leaders recently lowered a significant set of long-term academic achievement goals that students have consistently failed to meet.  Already, the new benchmarks are proving to be achievable: For the first time this spring, Idaho students exceeded state goals for math and English proficiency.

A Filer school teacher has been indicted by a grand jury for rape.  Jacob Mishler is listed as a science teacher at the elementary school.  He will be arraigned September 30th.

Idaho drivers faced another quiet week at the pump.  According to AAA, today’s average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $3.58, which is three cents less than a month ago and 57 cents less than a year ago.

Officials broke ground this month on a $142 million water project at Mountain Home Air Force Base, marking the start of providing a long-term water supply to the base.  The project will consist of a 14.4-mile underground pipeline that will transport water from the Snake River’s C.J. Strike Reservoir.

The Bureau of Land Management will implement an emergency closure to recreational shooting in the Indian Springs area south of Kimberly, on Friday to protect life and property.  The BLM has received numerous calls of dangerous near misses from ricocheting bullets for people who are in the area.

SPORTS

Officials from FOX Sports and the Mountain West Conference announced yesterday that the Sept. 28 football game between Boise State and Washington State will kick off at 8 p.m. The game will air on a FOX Sports network that is still to be announced.  The announcement of the exact network will come six-days prior to the game, Sunday, Sept. 22.  This will be the fourth time in the series history that Washington State will make a trip to Boise to play on The Blue and the seventh meeting pitting the two programs against each other.

To the local scoreboard for High school Boys Soccer, Gooding defeated Bliss 1 to 0 and Buhl defeated Declo 4 to 2.  For the girls, Kimberly outlasted Wendell 3 to 0.  The Sun Valley Community School topped Filer 5 to 0. 

On today’s schedule, for the boys’ soccer games, Minico travels to Burley, Twin Falls goes to Mountain Home, Jerome to Wood River, and for the girls, Wood River visits Jerome, Burley to Minico and Mountain Home to Twin Falls.

As for Volleyball games, Minico visits Jerome, Burley will be in Twin Falls, Kimberly travels to Buhl, Wood River travels to Mountain Home. Wendell goes to Declo and Gooding to Filer.
