Idaho legislators will return to the Idaho State Capitol in Boise in December to elect party leadership teams, appoint committee chairpersons and make committee assignments for each of the 105 legislators. Organizational sessions take place every two years, following a general election.

Two Idaho residents have been sent to prison for possessing child porn. 42-year-old Twin Falls resident Shane Pruett was sentenced to 6 and a half years in prison. Caldwell Attorney Richard Hammond will spend 10 years behind bars.

The Idaho Supreme Court is deciding who must cover the costs of preparing court transcripts for indigent defendants on appeal a decision complicated by the state’s recent overhaul of its public defense system. Idaho transitioned to a new public defense system, consolidating 44 county-level state public defender’s offices into one statewide office. Before the reform, counties paid for these transcripts.

With all votes in Idaho counted, Republicans are set to increase their supermajority in the Idaho Legislature by three seats. Once election officials finished counting ballots results showed that incumbent Sen. Rick Just, D-Boise, and incumbent Reps. Ned Burns, D-Bellevue, and Nate Roberts, D-Pocatello, were defeated by Republican challengers.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is seeking federal approval to end a pandemic-era program that let Medicaid pay family members to care for people with disabilities. Idaho’s largest state government agency that runs Medicaid, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, says the costs and enrollment levels for the Family and Personal Care Services program have risen sharply, alleging that abuse of the program contributed to rising costs.

Today is veterans’ day. There will be a ceremony this morning at 10 hosted by Idaho Home health and hospice. The celebration will be at the Canyons Retirement community.

The 12th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Men’s Basketball Team dominated from start to finish behind a long ball barrage, beating Monroe College 96-75 Saturday to take third in the Battle for the Boot sponsored by Title One and Rocky Mountain Agronomics. The Golden Eagles will be back in action next week when they host the Physicians Immediate Care/North Canyon Medical Invitational Friday and Saturday.

The 11th-ranked College of Southern Idaho struggled to find offense Saturday, falling 56-42 to second-ranked Northwest Florida State. The Golden Eagles are 3-1 with two top 25 wins and will have a week off before hosting the Coca Cola Invitational.

Boise State Heisman candidate Ashton Jeanty rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Broncos past Nevada, 28-21, in front of the sixth-largest crowd at Albertsons Stadium on Saturday. Jeanty’s historic performance marks the eighth three-touchdown game of his career and the sixth time he has rushed for over 200 yards. Boise State will visit San Jose State on Saturday, Nov. 16. The contest will kick off at 5 p.m. MT and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

The Idaho State Bengals snapped a 40-year losing streak in Ogden, taking down the Weber State wildcats 43-35 to bring the newly re-minted Train Bell Trophy back home to Pocatello. The Idaho State Bengals men’s basketball team will be back in Reed Gym for the first time of the 2024-25 season, hosting Southern Oregon University tonight at 7 PM. This will be the first-ever meeting between Idaho State and Southern Oregon.

Rosie Schweizer scored a career-high 23 points and tied her career high with 13 rebounds, and Idaho vandals dominated the boards, fell to Washington State 71-60 in a hard-fought battle Sunday afternoon at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman. They are back in action Wednesday against NAIA opponent Walla Walla U. The game is set to tip at 6 p.m.

In local high school state playoff action, The Kimberly Bulldogs went for two in overtime and it was a decision that paid off as the Dawgs topped Fruitland 27-26 in overtime to move onto the 4A state football semifinals. In another state game, Skyline Downed Twin Falls 35 to 14.
