🛂 Immigration & State Policy

  • 🚓 ICE Partnership: Governor Brad Little announced Idaho State Police will now assist ICE in transporting high-risk, convicted undocumented immigrants directly from Idaho jails to ICE detention centers. Officials say this supports public safety and strengthens federal immigration enforcement.
  • 🗺 Greater Idaho Movement: Eastern Oregon senators are calling for a public hearing on Senate Joint Memorial 7, which invites Idaho to formally discuss relocating the state border. Thirteen counties have voted in favor of joining Idaho. Supporters say it’s time for legislators to act.

  • 🚨 McCall Manhunt: Police in McCall are investigating reported sightings of Travis Decker, the Washington man accused of murdering his three daughters. Officials ask the public to report only first-person sightings by calling McCall Dispatch.
  • ⚖ Vallow Daybell Trial: Opening statements began in Lori Vallow Daybell’s Arizona trial. Accused of plotting to kill her niece’s ex-husband, Vallow is representing herself. She was declared competent to stand trial earlier this week.
  • 🚗 High-Speed Chase: A police pursuit that began in Oregon ended near the Fruitland Bridge on I-84. The driver fled after a traffic stop for suspected DUI and crashed. Idaho State Police arrested the suspect.

🏛 State & Local Government

  • 🏋️‍♂️ Twin Falls Recreation Center: The Twin Falls City Council voted to move forward with a feasibility study and property search for a long-planned community rec center. Councilman Chris Reid opposed the idea, citing the projected $60 million cost.
  • ⚖ Reproductive Rights Initiative Delay: The Idaho Supreme Court has yet to issue a ruling—more than a month after oral arguments—on the wording for a proposed 2026 reproductive rights ballot measure. Organizers say the delay is hindering their ability to gather signatures and forced them to postpone a kickoff rally.
  • 💸 Disability Care Program Ending: Idaho will end a program in mid-July that pays family caregivers, like parents and spouses, to care for disabled loved ones. The federal government approved the termination. Families say the decision creates major stress and uncertainty.

  • 🚧 Road Closure in Jerome: East 400 South in Jerome will close for two weeks starting Monday due to I-84 bridge work.

  • 🏆 Burley Wood Bat Tournament:
    • Minico Storm A defeated Twin Falls Hawks A 10-0 with Kam Rutschke’s two-hitter, but later lost 4-3 to Idaho Prime 18U in a walk-off. Prime also edged Buhl Tribe A 2-0.
    • Burley Green Sox A crushed Dillon, Montana 15-0, then beat Nampa Chiefs 18U in a thrilling 11-10 extra-innings victory thanks to Casen Cooper’s walk-off single.
    • Kimberly B swept Filer B with 10-1 and 5-3 wins. Dax Reid struck out 11 in Game 1, and Colt Taylor fanned 10 in Game 2.
    • Burley B dominated Hub City Hitmen 12-10 and 17-2. Bywater and Hemsley threw a one-hitter in Game 2. Burley B is now 4-0.
  • 🏀 CSI Transfers: College of Southern Idaho sophomores Walker Timme and Brandon Oloumou are moving on. Timme signed with Northern Arizona after averaging 11 PPG. Oloumou, recovering from injury, is headed to Middle Tennessee State. Both schools are Division I.
  • 🏈 Big Sky Kickoff: The 2025 Big Sky Football Kickoff Weekend is July 19–21 in Spokane. Idaho will be represented by new head coach Thomas Ford Jr. and players Nate Azzopardi and Sam Brown. Idaho State sends Stryker Rashid and Nathan Reynolds. Events include a youth clinic, Hall of Fame gala, and ESPN+ coverage.
